Didactic day in Traverse, followed by some (more) shopping in TC. I walked
around Best Buy so long that the camera-area guy said "hey, you're STILL
here?" And I had a conversation with one of the managers about how
disappointed I was with the $5.99 movie selection... took him a while to
realize that I wanted the GOOD movies for cheap, and he had a good laugh at
that. What??! Evil Dead for cheap??

Didn't buy a remote-start system yet; but as it gets colder in Cheboygan
(and snow starts to fall) I'll be ever more interested.

Newest additions to my music collection: Billie Holliday (the Classic Decade
and that Ole Devil Called Love) and Louis Prima (of "Oh Marie" and "I Ain't
Got Nobody" fame).

Three weeks into surgery. I'm reserving judgement for now, because I'm very very sleepy (and it's not even 10pm!) and I can't really speak honestly about how cool it is to see someone's intestines or feel a patient's carotid pulsing directly under my finger... This really is a good rotation.

I've been sleepy since it started, but at the same time I can't tell whether that's because of getting up early, or staying up late (Halloween partying and the time change). What I can tell you is I prefer the weekends :)

I had all sorts of interesting things to say (I've been saving them up over the last month, eh?) Hmm....

One, I'm concerned for the future of my country. I'm pleased that so many people voiced themselves with a vote but disturbed at the overlap of church and state, and the percent of people who voted with "morals" as #1 issue. Let me say that THAT MAN shares NONE of MY values. It's frustrating that he sees a mandate when I see division. And it irks me that he tries to speak for me when he doesn't represent me at all.

Two, I'm planning to focus on compassion and love and understanding. I believe that the world needs a whole lot more of those, and my hope is that I can create more by giving it to others... Increase the world's supply, if you will, by example. Talking with others, trying to understand their motivation, and trying to CONNECT. People talk about how the democratic party has lost touch with their base, or the rest of America, or something... I don't know. But I think that we have a one-party system right now, and we definitely need somebody willing to stand up and boldly state their platform, and who will speak about the positive things she or he can do for the country.

Or, "We must go forward, not backward, upward, not forward, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom."
Hm, maybe that'll work.

The beautiful sunrise this morning (set to music by Jeremy Kittle) ALMOST makes up for having to be up to see it. Bedtime, and I wish you all sweet dreams. Sugarplums, large women, whatever makes you happy. I'll dream of Aaron.
