Hi all! Sorry for not writing-- my life's been pretty busy over the last couple weeks and every day I'd think of things to write onto my blogger, but I didn't feel like I had the time. However today I can't resist. I found this quote in the NY Times, "Europeans Fume over WorldCom Bombshell." I thought this guy was probably the typical irascible old man:
``WorldCom? Never heard of it!'' said Sieglinde Sander, 71, retired, in Berlin.
``However, for me, the whole thing sounds typically American. The patriotism in the United States has been annoying me for years, I don't like their culture very much. Americans will probably never behave decently.''

Somehow I'm entertained rather than being insulted.

Let's see, what else-- my housemates and I had a very successful barbecue on Sunday-- the prep was intense, but the party itself was relaxing; we even had little concert with sitar and guitar and banjo. I saw my friend Carrie Schonveld who's currently teaching in Guatemala at the School for the Americas. My car got scotch-guarded and rust-proofed (and boy was it stinky inside for a few days!!), and then it got a flat tire (d'oh!). I am now working my two jobs; it's interesting, but I tend to run late and I always have to eat lunch as I drive from one to the other. I'm thinkin' that's the cause of my current fatigue. And I've had a few heart palpitations in the last few days-- hoping it's due to stress (going from no job in May to one job and now two). I'd like to get the health insurance through school before I actually start in August, but I was just told by a few students to not actually get sick. Luuhhvely.

Have yourselves a merry little christmas in june...

Ah yes, summer is the wedding season. I was at home last week and my neighbor called me over to see pictures of his son's wedding. He and I used to play hide-and-seek, swim, street-tennis, etc, until we went to kindegarten and he found out that "girls had cooties." It was wEiRd to see him in a tux in Stetson Chapel getting married, but of course it's great too.

And my other weird wedding story for the day-- I was hanging out with friends at the Green Door last night and we went over to their house for set-break. My roommate Jen was talking with someone about his wedding coming up this Saturday. He grabbed her ass, and said he would grab mine but he didn't really know me that well. I said it was okay (so did Jen) and let's say he wasn't shy about it. He said I must work out (a nice firm ass) though so that's cool.

I'll finish up with two exciting things: I got a new-used car last week, a '99 Toyota corolla; my two requirements were A/C (I had none since Mark and I drove home from S.Carolina last summer) and manual transmission (i love my stick-shift). I just have to get a cd player installed and I'll be all set.

My housemates and I went to Mackinac Island last saturday; we left friday and the rain started around Mt. Pleasant and continued until around Clare of the return trip. We threw out the camping idea and found a cheap motel, ate pasties and watched Cosby and Sex and the City. The next day we tromped around in the rain (experiencing at least fifteen of the 42 varieties of rain discussed in Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) to see the Fort and Arch Rock and the town. Everyone thought the island was cool, but Mol and I were more upbeat than the others. AND I bought fudge and saltwater taffy. It was great!

Over and out!

Ahh, monday again. (some weeks that's more like "aaaaaah!!!" but today's not so bad) I had a long weekend-- it started thursday and I did lots of things. I went to Ann Arbor to visit Jackie and Matt and to go out with Nora and Mark to Cavern Club for Nora's 21st. Then I worked in my garden plot fri night and sat. morning, earning a sunburn for my efforts. I went to see a Summer Circle play near MSU's auditorium and then caught the end of the looooooooooong Wings/Hurricanes game. And yesterday I went to Jambalaya's to catch Jen and her band, "Murdawg and the Low-down Dirty Strays."

Troy gave me some gardening tools for my birthday, and it took me a little while to realize how COOL it is (thank you thank you thank you) Actually, I think he's created a monster. In the past I've planted herb gardens for houses I've lived in, so of course I planted one in the Clemens house. But then I got this garden plot through the Lansing Food Bank Garden Project and at first I thought it would be 5'x5'-- very modest but enough to plant tomatoes and spinach. When I got there I found that the plot is 25'x25' and it's HUGE. So this is what I'm planning: 4 tomato plants (2 cherry and 2 regular), 4 eggplants, 6 lettuce, 16 spinach, 2 rows carrots, 2 rows beans, 6 peppers (3 anaheim and 3 green bell), garlic, radishes, rutabagas, and turnips. And I'm trying to get my roommates to plant something-- Jen wants pumpkins and kale. This is nutty but I love it; the other people in the garden are pretty cool too. And it's fun planting stuff and seeing what grows (hopefully what I've planted!!). Just call me "Farmer Jo."

Random link of the day: Soy Vay. This is a marinade that my brother Pete used on tuna steaks when I visited last. He was so proud of the punny name that he made a point of showing it to me, as well as the "story" on the back. It's worth a look-see.

Enjoy your day, folks!

Okay, call me over-eager...

I told y'all that I bought a tent, and I feel pretty good about it (despite the fact that it cost about one paycheck from the computer monitor job). So there I was on Sunday afternoon, hanging out with my roommates Molly and Vanessa; I was just minding my buisiness, chatting wtih them while I tried to figure out what to do that day. Suddenly an image of my tent popped into my mind, and I was really excited-- "I want to use my tent!" I exclaimed, "but where?!?" Later that evening (after watching "Moonstruck" for the first time that I knew what I was watching-- it's on cable at least twice a month), thoughts of the tent crept back into my mind. So I took it out and set it up in my room--a tight fit but it worked-- and took my blankets and pillow into it. I felt like a little kid pretending to have a campout, only thing missing was a flashlight. :)

thought of the day:
You know you're a gardener when...

...buying cilantro and three types of basil for your garden makes you more giddy than when you graduated college.
