Hi folks, I'm happy to report that Michigan finally got a bit of warmth! We had snow showers last friday, and today I went outside and worked in the yard in a tank top. Woo hoo! And I'm actually happy to do yard work too. I love spring-- there's a lot of energy in the air, living things growing, and little bits of new green to discover everywhere. I love it most for the feeling of ... potential... I don't know what will grow, or even what will happen to me in the next few months, but it's fun to just go outside and frolic in the pure being-outsideness of everything. (and I've just noticed how incoherent spring makes me. but that's okay, because spring is exciting)

Skill of the week is still sewing. I started a shirt monday and finished it today. Someone at the Bernina dealer showed me how to modify patterns so they fit my body correctly; so it fits great-- except when I raise my arms or reach for something. D'oh.

I repent of my earlier venting about my neighbors; they did inform us, but I happened to be gone at the time. It was very much on their property. I think I was just so surprised because that tree had been there for all of my life. Makes me wonder what I'll do when someone else is living in my house someday?

My mom and I found a nifty Indian restaurant in Portage; it's tucked away in the farthest corner of a hillside shopping complex, you'd never know it was there. The food was great, even though I didn't really know what I ordered until it arrived.

Good news everyone, my interview at MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine went well. I kept up the optimistic attitude and tried to convert the nervous energy into anticipation. My COM friends (Kirk Down and Andy Zink) gave me some good tips and info about COM, and my friends and family kept my self-confidence up (thanks, all!) I tried to have fun with it (it's "fun" in the same way that the MCAT was fun... I approached a challenge of unknown character and did the best I could)

So I dressed up in suit and heels, with my hair in a "professional but fun" ponytail. I even took out my eyebrow ring, though the first-year student who gave us a tour later told me that I could've left it in. I met some very kind staff and faculty and chatted with the other prospective students there for interviews; I am hoping very much to be admitted for next fall and to get to join COM. Hopefully I'll know soon (as soon as wednesday?!)

Skill of the week: sewing I made a shirt last week! It was part of my "don't think about the interview and worry" strategy. It's a "peasant shirt," very loose, and white. (I christened it with tomato sauce the first day I wore it)

I had a little shock today when I came home. I had a long weekend in East Lansing, and I was tired and happy to be back in Portage. I turned onto my street, pulled into my driveway, and ... something was different. It had something to do with my neighbor's yard. Something... there was an SUV. on the lawn. with one tire resting on a tree stump. I had to look twice to be sure, but I soon realized that THEY CUT DOWN THE TREE!

Granted, the locust tree is not a pretty nor a hardy tree. and the said tree was on their property line (or at least the easement between our two properties). But you might think that they would discuss it with us or at least inform us before they did it, since it does affect our property. Grrrr.

Check out my friend Tim's tunes. They're pretty cool.

And if you have a lot of extra time on your hands, this is an interesting link.

hoop fo oat.

Bodie pointed out that "Tao of Pooh" backwards is "hoop fo oat." Pretty nifty. I'll probably think about that every time I pick up the book, which I've done recently when I'm not reading Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukav. I also went to Barnes & Noble today and bought two books by the Dalai Lama about the Four Noble Truths and ethics.

Today the sun was out, air calm; I walked out to my car, thinking it was perhaps on the way to something akin to "warm." But what was this tiny white stuff falling out of the air?? Had it been June, I would've guessed it was that white fluffy cottony stuff from that type of tree (sorry, not a forestry major). But lo and behold, the white stuff falling from the blue, almost cloudless sky overhead was snow! I'll believe winter is over only when high summer arrives!

Easter was nice for me-- Pete and Anne serve a veritable feast at parties. Troy and I hid the eggs in their yard, and then the four kids ran around (I had to carry baby Emma)-- not bothered by the three cameras or crowd of relatives-- and found their eggs (again, Emma needed a little help). Very fun, except that I had lost my voice and could only squeak or whisper. Pete said it was a blessing for all of them. (he and I always tease each other)

Two days to go before my interview at MSU COM-- one step closer to "Dr. Nigrelli."
